Frequently Asked Questions

Is acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture should not be painful. Often, patients do not even feel the needle insertion. Sometimes, a small "pinch" sensation is felt as the needle is inserted. Once the needle is in place, you may feel a warmth, heaviness, or tingling around the area of the needle. What you are experiencing is the movement of Qi or energy. Most patients report feeling deeply relaxed during their treatments.

Is acupuncture safe?
When performed by a well trained, competent practitioner, acupuncture is extremely safe. Acupuncturists are required to use sterile, single use, disposable needles.

How many treatments will I need?
Each individual will respond to treatment differently. The length of treatment will vary according to duration and severity of the condition. Most patients will see improvement in 5-10 sessions. Complaints of a chronic nature will often require a longer series of treatment.
